Densha Otoko was about a young man who rescued a beautiful woman from an old drunkard in a train. Then the lady she rescued asked for his address to thank him. When this man returned to his home, he told his experience in a BBS with the name of “Densha Otoko”. The young woman sends him a set of Hermes tea cups as a sign of appreciation. Then Densha Otoko told the posters about this and gave the young woman a name of “Hermes”. The posters insist Densha Otoko to call Hermes and ask her for a date. When Hermes agrees, Densha Otoko asks help to the posters of the BBS. After the date, the two protagonists start seeing each other.
CAST:
Yamada Takayuki as Densha Otoko
Nakatani Miki as Hermes
This was the movie version of the series Densha Otoko and it was based from the popular true to life story of Densha Otoko. Comparing it with the series I love the movie than the series. The romance was not cheesy and the story was realistic. There were no dull moments. Though the movie was a bit different with the series it was shorten some of the cast in the series were not shown in the movie. Yamada and Nakatani’s acting were impressive and realistic and I can’t believe that a handsome like Yamada can be a geek though Yamada being otaku was not justified. The movie was focused in the story of Densha Otoko and Hermes’ love affair. The only anime figure I saw in the movie was the mini figure gundam he put in his computer in his office.
The movie has great similarities with the Korean movie “My Sassy Girl”. The events were happened in the train; it was also a true to life story and was shared through internet. The leading lady of Densha Otoko was a fine and beautiful young woman while the leading lady of My Sassy Girl was an aggressive and beautiful young woman.
The movie signifies that a geek like Densha Otoko also has the right to love and be loved. And treat them as a normal person.
I highly recommend you to watch this movie. It is better than the series.
