Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuu’utsu (Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya) is a story about a high school girl named Suzumiya Haruhi who, which  unknown to her, posseses the power to change reality. While Haruhi was the center and main character of the anime, the story was told from the point of view of Kyon, Haruhi’s Classmate.

Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuu’utsu was in fact popular overseas. I bought the dvd because of curiousity and the insisting power of the seller! Anyway, why curiousity? Like I said it was really popular and I was really curious why they like this anime and what does it have to make the people crazy about it.

My first impression of the anime, it will be another NORMAL-slice-of-life/school-life anime (though i love watching slice of life anime). Actually the first episode was a bit boring and I was thinking to drop it but still I continued watching it because I was really curious about the sudden popularity of the anime. As I watch the anime I became fond and addicted to it. The anime was really funny and interesting and that’s when I found out that it was not just an Ordinary Slice-of-Life/School-life anime.

Though the anime was a bit confusing because it was in an anachronic order (lets say “not in order” if answering an enumeration type of exam). I thought the anime will be all about Haruhi Suzumiya but it turns out that it will be a story about Kyon and his encounter with different people with special identity. Is it because the story was from Kyon’s point of view and he his the one who narrates the story in the anime?

About the characters,
Suzumiya Haruhi, was the main character who has a power to change the reality which is unknown to her. At the earlier episodes she has the personality of anti-social, cold and shows some various personality quirks but as the story goes on Haruhi’s personality became more open about her emotions and yes, she’s super HYPERACTIVE! (ADHD haha xD)… She was the leader/founder/ultra director/ ultra chief of SOS Brigade (Sekai o Ōini Moriageru Tame no Suzumiya Haruhi no Dan). She was also manipulative, if there’s something she wants she will do everything to have it which it get to the point that she manipulates people. Haruhi is not shy and often attracts a lot of attetion especially if she thinks that it is for SOS Brigade, like the part where she and Mikuru (Haruhi forced her) wears a bunny costume to promote SOS Brigade.  At first I thought Haruhi was weird because she believes in aliens, time travellers, espers, etc. (I admit I once believe on those haha). And I was amaze with her courage to tell that phrase in her introduction on their first day, “I dont have any interest in ordinary people. If anyone here is an alie, time traveller, slide or esper, please, come and see me! That is all!”. Though it was really obvious that Haruhi has a crush on Kyon and she also has a tendency to be jealous and angry when Kyon gets too friendly with any girl. Evidently, the universe was almost destroyed and recreated when Haruhi’s jealousy was pushed too far. And I want to say that Haruhi Suzumiya is my favorite character haha.. and I so love Haruhi. HARUHISM! I also became one of the people who loves Haruhi Suzumiya.. Haruhiist? haha

Kyon, an ordinary high school student who suddenly gave up his fantasies about alien, time travellers, espers, santa claus as he left the middle school. He was the second founder of the SOS Brigade. He was the narrator of the story in the anime. After one small conversation with him, Haruhi unexpectedly opened up to him and dragged him into her new club. His reputation and fate have since become entangled with Haruhi’s. Honestly speaking, I like Kyon, I like how he cares for the members of the SOS Brigade, and many more.

They were the two characters I like in Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuu’utsu. About animation, well in my opinion I love the animation, I love drawing and the color.

About the plot, It was a great story anyway, though a bit confusing because the series was shown in anachronic way. And the story is really hilarious and you’ll never forget for the rest of your life! haha.. And I think those were the reason why the sudden popularity of the series and why people still love the series until now.
