Takashi was talking with his classmates when suddenly he saw a spirit. He suddenly runs away but the manage to follow him. The spirit demands to get the book of friends. Lucky Cat, Madara came to the rescue and told the spirit that the book of friends was reserved for him. Madara transform into it’s original form which make the spirit scared and run away.
Natsume explained how ayakashi always asked him to return their name which really makes him really tired. Madara saw him resting and guess that he was tired because of the returning of the name. Madara noticed that the book of friends is gerring thinner and thought that he should have eaten Takashi. Takashi told the naughty Nyanko that he heard what Madara said.
While on dinner, the picky food nyanko refuses to eat the left over but accepted a slice of sashimi. Takashi was really embarassed in what Madara did. Then he noticed that his food was bitten and then he saw a figurine sized spirit.
At Takashi’s room, Madara suddenly recognized the figurine sized ayakashi and called him as “Tsuyukami” but the last time he saw him he was bigger, human size. Tsuyukami recognized the voice of Madara and asked why he was stuck in the form of Maneki-Neko. However, Takashi tried to return Tsuyukami’s name but the page was stuck into another page. Madara told him that his grandfather has a bad habit of eating and believes it was a left over of rice. Takashi tried to peel it off but it only makes Tsuyukami scream in pain. Madara reminds him that what happened to the page it will happen it to the ayakashi that owns the name in that page. Takashi apologizes to Tsuyukami and told him that he cannot do anything to give his name back.
Takashi encounter a old lady who dropped a bunch of peaches and Takashi helped her picking up. As a token of appreciation, the old lady gave him a peach. As the old lady left, Madara told Takashi that the old lady will not last long since her smell is not that good.
Takashi and Madara went to Tsuyukami’s shrine and Takashi thought that he was really a god. Madara told Tsuyukami what Takashi was wondering about. Tsuyukami laughs and told him that he was just a wandering spirit taking shelter in the shrine and told the story why people worships and pray in the shrine and he was still bigger back then. As the years passed by, people prays in the shrine decreases which made him small. Takashi gave an offering of peach but told that he has one. It turns out Tsuyukami knows the old lady that Takashi met. Tsuyukami told them that Mrs. Hana is the only person who still come and pray in the shrine.
Takashi told Tsuyukami that he can return his name if they can find the owner of the name in the other page. Unfortunately, they don’t know what’s the identity of the spirit. Tsuyukami told them that he saw the spirit back then and tried to draw the ayakashi and made Madara and Takashi laughing at the drawing.
They tried to find for the spirit and asked other spirits. Unfortunately, they didn’t find the spirit. The next day, Takashi visited Tsuyukami’s shrine and saw Mrs. Hana praying. Mrs. Hana told them the story of seeing Tsuyukami.
That night while Natsume was sleeping he’s thinking about loneliness and how sad he felt when he was lonely. And he felt it heavy which made him woke up and saw Madara ready to eat him. Takashi punches Madara. Madara told him that things like this can will make mess someone’s heart. Takashi told him if the next time he did sleepwalk he’ll cut his tail fur. Suddenly, Tsuyukami knock on the window and told them tah he had found the spirit.
Madara told Takashi that he sensing danger. The spirit appeared and struggled Takashi. Then the memory of the spirit flashesback. The spirit was one of those spirits who beg for foods from people. Instead of getting food, he got pieces of ripped papers from Reiko. She wanted to compete with the spirit and if the spirit wins, it can eat her. Meanwhile, Madara transformed into it’s original form and made Takashi to do the name releasing chant. And returned the name of Susugi and Tsuyukami.
Tsuyukami flashesback. Reiko told him that offering would not continue forever. She felt that people are selfish and cruel so she suggested that he looks for a new dwelling if he has the power to do so. Tsuyukami thanked Reiko but he believed that even if he’s only loved once, it’s hard to forget about it. Then Takashi passed out of exhaustion.
A few days later, Takashi went to Tsuyukami’s shrine. And noticed that Tsuyukami became more smaller. Then he glowed and told them that Hana has passed away. Hana was the last person believed at him adn if she passed away, he will fade out as well. Takashi told him that he’ll pray everyday for Tsuyukami but he refuses and told him that he consider Takashi as a friend. He have been watching her for a whole time a now he can finally touch her and told Takashi that humans are precious to him and bid goodbye.
Aftermath, Takashi brought an offering to Tsuyukami’s shrine. Madara told him that there’s no one in this shrine and stole one of the buns. Takashi chased the cat.
~I love how the anime progress and put some dramatic scenes. And I really think that Tsuyukami has fallen inlove with Hana. Is there really spirit falling inlove with humans? Anyway, Madara/Nyanko was really cute but I really don’t like the idea that he really want to kill Takashi. There’s this attitude of Reiko that I don’t like the part where she gave Susugi pieces of torn papers and told asked him for a duel. Like she’s bullying the spiri. Over all I still liek to continue the series all through out the ending.
